Hey there š,
Itās been a minuteā¦or more like years. Honestly itās been so long you probably donāt even remember signing up for this.
Well itās time for another try at this whole newsletter thing, so I figured Iād pop in quick since itās been so long, to say, hey youāre currently on this list but if youād rather not be (no offense taken, I always want less emails) you can scroll straight to the bottom of this email and unsubscribe before I start barging into your inbox with more emails.
Whatās this newsletter going to be this time around? Honestly it will probably take me some time to really figure that out, and it might be all over the place from post to post, I think thatās the only way I will continue to enjoy doing this.
So if youāre up to coming along for the ride, thank you and welcome aboard!
If not, unsubscribe, free up that inbox, and maybe Iāll see you later š«”
(Also regardless of if this is your first or last email from me, thank you for supporting me at some point in time, it always truly means the world)
While I have you here anyways I thought Iād share a few things that Iāve been digging recently that hopefully maybe you dig too.
Podcast
The Ezra Klein Show ā How to Discover your own taste
This is by far one of my favorite podcast episodes recently, one Iāve recommended to so many people and has led to so many interesting conversations around it.
Itās a fascinating interview with Kyle Chayka who recently released his new book āFilterworld: How Algorithms Flattened Cultureā about how technology has influenced culture and taste.
I think itās well worth the listen just to think about your own personal taste across any area, whether you feel like youāve already developed a specific taste thatās true to you or maybe youāre currently trying to.
Thereās also one excerpt around the future of AI that I really loved. When Iām in conversations about the future of AI and what it means, I talk a lot about āhumannessā and Ezra hits on a core pillar around this idea.
One reason I think AI is so threatening is that we have asked people for so long to not be very human, to actually be very generic, to act themselves like a machine, to do something very rote, to do things that are noncreativeā¦
I have this intuition that in a world where everybody has access to these models and what theyāre going to do is create a lowest common denominator of aggregated taste, having a very specific sense of taste, having a very specific sense of discernment becomes more important...It creates a higher premium on being a human, on being an individual, on offering to the people in your life, offering in your work, offering in your contributions something specific.
Music
My favorite artist on repeat right now is Medium Build.
Iām seeing him live in June and I could not be more excited.
Watch a few of his live performances and you might see why.
He recently did a Tiny Desk like set with Track Star and 50% of the views might be from me aloneā¦
If you dig it, he has a new album coming out this Friday to keep your eyes out for š
Art
One of my favorite local artists here in MSP is Gina Gaetz who recently just released a new collection of paintings from her residency she did in Joshua Tree, CA.
Part of me doesnāt want to share this, because I actually want to buy all of them, but itās too good not to share.
If youāre looking for some new art for your space, look no further.
Well thatās it.
If you have anything youāve been digging recently that you want to share with me, I would love to know!
Otherwiseā¦maybe see you soon,
Jesse
